Edinburgh University win but Watsonians could seal the women`s title against Wildcats
Edinburgh University kept up the pressure on Watsonians with a 3-0 win at GHK and moved to within two points of Premiership leaders Watsonians who take on Western Wildcats on Sunday and three points would secure the retention of the title.
There were chances at both ends in the first half but there were no goals. However, the students introduced a clinical element to the game after the interval and Jess Ross, Ava Smith and Jika Nyirenda secured the three points.
Meanwhile at Titwood Clydesdale Western confirmed their third placed position after a 4-1 home win over Grange. Millie Steiger got a couple while Emma McGregor and Heather Howie got the others, Imogen Aitken replied for Grange.
In an early start Uddingston confirmed their seventh place status with a 4-0 win over nearest rivals St Andrews University. There was only one goal in it at the interval, Lucy Hogarth converting a penalty corner. Uddy confirmed their superiority with a double in the third quarter through Lexi Macmillan and Lily Creighton. Then Macmillan, who has been a regular on target this season, added her own second in the final quarter for a clear victory.
And so to the relegation issue.
Glasgow University pulled themselves three points ahead of second bottom Hillhead with a 2-0 win at already relegated Gordonians, and they have a game in hand. On target were Rhiannon Carr and Lucy Smith.
Not good news for Hillhead who went down 2-0 at Inverleith and look destined for the relegation play-off jitters.
