District & Reserve Cup and Plate finalists ready for action
The winners of the District & Reserve Cup and Plate Finals will be decided at Peffermill, Edinburgh this Saturday.
The Women’s District Plate Final is the first match of the day on Pitch 2 (10.30). Hillhead Ladies II and Grange EL B will clash to determine the winners of the silverware.
The Edinburgh side reached the final courtesy of a nail-biting 3-1 win on penalties against Perthshire in the semi-final. On the other hand, Hillhead’s passage to the final has been devoid of tension after a comfortable win over Kinross in the last four.
On Pitch1, the Women’s District Cup Final gets underway at 11.00 with Orkney up against Milne Craig Clydesale Western IV. The Orcadians are making their third final appearance in row after wins in 2011 and finishing runners-up last season. They face a tough test against the Titwood outfit who have not conceded a goal during their run-in to the final.
At 12.30, Hillhead lll go head-to-head with Watsonians lll in the Men’s Reserve Plate Final on Pitch 2, while Dundee Wanderers III take on Western Wildcats III in the Men’s Reserve Cup Final Pitch 1 (13.00). Wildcats have demonstrated good form in the cup but will have their work cut out against the Taysiders.
Aberdeen GSFP II and Hillhead II will contest the Men’s District Plate Final on Pitch 2 (14.30). The former pupils defeated local rivals Granite City Wanderers II in the semi-finals, while Hillhead II needed penalties against Fidra Lions.
The Men’s District Cup Final (15.00) on Pitch 1 will conclude the Finals day as Inverleith ll face Grove Menzieshill ll.
Inverleith ll have a league and cup double in their sights this season after being crowned Regional League Central Division 1 champions last month. However, the Dundonians will be hoping to get their hands on the cup, after finishing second place to title winners AAM Gordonians ll in Regional League North Division.
