Derby clash in Edinburgh

ABERDEEN ASSET MANAGEMENT NATIONAL LEAGUE  –
WOMEN

Sam Judge, player/coach at Edinburgh University, views
second place in the Aberdeen Asset Management first division as
just reward for the hard work put in by her charges in both
training and match days.

Edinburgh are three points ahead of Milne Craig Western in third
place, but five adrift of league leaders Grove Menzieshill who have
yet to drop a point in this season`s campaign.

Judge reflected on the couple of setbacks: “I`m happy with our
current position, but we were disappointed losing to Grove because
we didn`t play well,  and then we had chances to win the
Western encounter but didn`t take them.”

The students seem to have got into their stride in the last four
games with convincing wins over Grange (8-0), Giffnock (6-3),
Inverleith (5-0) and finally  Dundee Wanderers (3-0) last
weekend.   “In the last few games we have played some
good hockey and things just seem to be coming together,” said
Judge.

The Edinburgh derby with CALA this Saturday could be a potential
banana skin for the students.    CALA have also gone
through a bit of a renaissance this season, they currently lie a
creditable fourth in the table, they beat Western 2-1 two weeks
ago, but fell a little from grace by losing 2-1 to Giffnock last
Saturday.

“CALA have had a good start and we had two close games with them
last season, so I have no doubt it will be another close
affair.   We are confident at the moment because we have
been playing well, but we never go into games taking anything for
granted.   As always, we have prepared for a tough game,”
said Judge.

Last season both games between the Edinburgh rivals ended in 2-2
draws, perhaps not the result that Judge will be looking for this
time round.  (Meggetland at 14.00)

Meanwhile, there should be no further changes at the top,
leaders Grove should see off Western Wildcats (Auchenhowie) and
Western should also account for Grange.  (Peffermill at

With a bit of an up and down season to date, Dundee Wanderers
quest to reach the top five before the winter break should kick
start with a home fixture against Inverleith.   The
Taysiders are two points behind fifth placed Giffnock, but with two
games in hand, so Vikki Bunce and her cohorts need to be sharp on
Saturday to pick up three valuable points.  (Dundee High
School at 16.00)

Giffnock must therefore beat Glynhill Kelburne to retain
interest in a top five spot.   Neither side have caught
the eye this season, although Giffnock did well to see off CALA 2-1
last weekend, courtesy of a last gasp winner from Laura
Jarvie.   (Bellahouston at 15.00)
