Day two of the 8-Nations
Scotland Aspiring Boys 1-5 England U18 Boys
In the scorching heat of Germany, Scotland Aspiring Boys lost 5-1 to England U18 Boys in their second match of the 8-Nations.
England went one goal up in the opening quarter before surging into a 4-0 lead by half time.
The lesson for the Scots to learn from this half is around discipline as the goals all came while Scotland was a player down through cards, which was made even more difficult by the searing temperature.
Still, there were chances for Scotland. An excellent counter attack saw Jay Berry strike the ball against the side board.
A ten minute yellow card and another green card saw Scotland down to ten players for much of the third quarter but through tremendous hard work, and an improvement in tactical discipline, Scotland didn’t concede any further goals during the quarter. On the contrary, it seemed like they turned a corner.
In the final quarter Scotland found the back of the net. A Matthew Hughson drag flick swung into the bottom left corner to pull the score back to 4-1.
England scored a fifth and Scotland nearly struck again after some nice link up play between Johnny Bradley and Rory Steedman ended with a good save by the keeper.
Another good lesson for Scotland and the team showed good improvement as the match went on.
Scotland Aspiring Girls 0-2 England U18 Girls
Scotland Aspiring Girls lost their second match of the 8-Nations in Terrassa 2-0 to England.
England enjoyed the bulk of possession in the opening quarter, and attempted to work openings down the channels, but found the Scotland defence well organised and hard to break down.
There was a great team ethic about Scotland with the players working hard for each other and showing real grit.
Scotland’s resolute defending continued into the second quarter and the tremendous hard-working performance left no way through for the English attack.
With Scotland suffering a couple of injuries in quick succession England took the lead in the third quarter before the Scots could reset, and their pressure resulted in a second strike a short time later.
Scotland came out fighting in the final quarter and created some opportunities to score. Two penalty corner efforts came close to finding the net, but what would be a well-earned goal evaded the Scots, and it ended 2-0.
