Day two in Wrexham for Scotland development squads

The second round of three matches saw the Scotland development squads take on Wales development squads in Wrexham with the women’s side clocking up their second win, and the men being narrowly defeated.

Scotland women’s development squad defeated Wales women development 3-1 in the second of a three-match series in Wrexham. The win confirms a series victory for the Scots with back-to-back wins and two solid performances.

It was the hosts who opened the scoring early in the first quarter from a penalty corner routine; a nice finish saw the ball slam into the corner of the goal for a Wales 1-0 lead.

It wouldn’t take the Scots long to reply and the goal came from an Emily Dark penalty corner. Dark sent a drag flick into the net to equalise for Scotland.

The Scots were in charge of the match when they took the lead in the second quarter, and it was a sublime goal. A long through ball found Hanna McKie who spun off her player and thrashed the ball into the top corner for an outstanding goal. 2-1.

The Scots were always in control of the second half and put in a much more consistent performance than the first match.

The third goal for Scotland came in the final quarter and again it was Dark from a penalty corner, this time a low blast into the corner to round off a 3-1 victory.

Wales men Dev 3-2 Scotland men dev

Scotland men’s development side lost 3-2 in a very tight match in Wrexham. It was the second of a three match series and gives the Welsh the lead in the series after yesterday’s goalless draw.

Scotland started strong in the contest and went 1-0 in the opening quarter when Jack McAllister scored with a sweet reverse stick shot from the top of the D.

It would soon be 1-1 when the Welsh equalised through a penalty flick as half time approached.

It was a very physical match and both teams stepped up their performance levels from the previous game.

Scotland went 2-1 up when Jack Jamieson struck a low penalty corner into the net to the left of the keeper.

There were nine minutes left to play when Wales equalised and the goal came the hosts punished a Scottish mistake to win a penalty corner, which was well dispatched.

The winner came in the final minute as Wales finished strongly and gave the hosts the victory in the tight and competitive match.
