Day one at the 8-Nations

Scotland Emerging Girls 0-2 Belgium U16 Girls

Scotland Emerging Girls lost 2-0 to Belgium in the searing heat of Terrassa in their opening 8-Nations match.

The young Scots coped well with the blistering temperatures to put on a sensational performance against a very good Belgium side.

Belgium took the lead five minutes into the opening quarter with a goal that disappointed the Scots. A scrappy pass from the baseline was bundled over the line to make it 1-0.

Scotland had opportunities of their own and were unlucky not to find the net. Lexie Macmillan had a penalty corner effort well saved, and later had an excellent strike from open play saved again by the keeper.

Two other penalty corner efforts just wouldn’t find the net for the Scots, while the Belgians managed to convert a corner of their own to go 2-0 ahead.

Charlotte Robertson, on various occasions, fizzed some lovely passes into the circle but no Scots were able to connect with the ball to convert.

At the other end of the pitch Freya MacKay and Jess Freeland put in fantastic defensive performances as did goalkeeper Ruby Crawford who made some solid saves.

All-in-all it was a positive outing for the Scots despite losing the match and the emerging girls will now face England on Wednesday.
