Day 2 of U18 Girls’ EuroHockey Championship II sees wins for Ireland and Turkey
Lithuania 1-2 Turkey
A dramatic late winner gave Turkey a 2-1 win over Lithuania in U18 Girls’ EuroHockey Championship II in Glasgow.
The first match of day two produced a tight and tentative start to the contest. Turkey edges the play but chances were few and far between.
The one stand out opportunity fell for Turkey when Elif Can swivelled and crashed a shot against the left post from a penalty corner rebound.
The opening goal eventually came in the second quarter and it was the Turks who grabbed it. Buse Sahiner popped up in the centre of the goal to finish off a nice cut back from the left to make it 1-0 to Turkey.
After half time the game continued to be close but Lithuania managed to level the scores. A scooped effort from Deimante Vietrinaite found the bottom left corner for 1-1.
The game was won late when a dramatic winner from Turkey’s Hiranur Baran hit the net to take the 2-1 victory.

Austria 0-5 Ireland
Two wins in two days for Ireland as they defeated Austria 5-0 at U18 Girls’ EuroHockey Championship II in Glasgow.
Ireland dominated much of the early play but the best chance of the opening quarter went to Austria. A long aerial ball and taken down and blasted towards goal, but well saved at the near post.
In the second quarter Ireland began to move through their gears. A sublime turn by Evie Girvan saw her burst into the circle a crack the ball towards the bottom corner, but Elena Lendl in goal was a match to it.
Then an equally sublime turn by Katie Herron saw her race into the circle and a diving save by Lendl at the bottom left corner denied the goal.
At the end of the half Ireland bagged their deserved goal. They won the ball in the Austria half and sent a lovely pass into the circle, a switch of the ball gave Girvan an empty net to tap the ball into for 1-0.
In the second half the Irish doubled their advantage when Hollai Quinn finished off a lovely attack with a sliding finish to make it 2-0 before Isobel Field quickly followed up to bag a third for 3-0.
It went to 4-0 at the end of the third quarter when Amelia Ryan forced the ball over the line from a set piece.
It was a sensational solo goal that completed the scoring. Herron went weaving her way through the Austria defence and finished to complete the scoring and a 5-0 win for Ireland.
