Clydesdale Western top at last!
Clydesdale Western, the only unbeaten team in the division, finally reached the top of the women`s Premiership with an 11-0 win over Erskine Stewart`s Melville in a catch-up match at Titwood last night.
Top scorer was Jenny Eadie with four. There were doubles for Fiona Semple and Heather Lang, while Emma McGregor, Holly Steiger and Argentinian Paz Medina all collected singles.
The battle of the universities ended with a 4-1 win for Edinburgh over Glasgow, but the score line was not sufficient for Sam Judge`s charges to overtake city neighbours, Watsonians, and so they remain in third spot. Also, the defeat for Glasgow means they have missed out on a place in the top six, so both GHK and Hillhead can now rest easy.
Edinburgh University exerted pressure right from the start and were two-up at the interval through Amy Brodie and Katie Robertson. Although Glasgow had a couple of chances, they were indebted to keeper Rachel Strachan for several saves, to keep the score down.
However, Glasgow struck in the third quarter. Ciara Forgie picked up the ball in the circle, but her resulting shot was blocked by the keeper, only for captain Catriona Humphery to dispatch the rebound home into the net for 2-1.
The recovery proved transient, though, as Edinburgh added two more before the end, through Georgia Jones and Jessica Ross, for a comfortable three points at the final whistle.
