Clubs compete for places in U16 Cup Finals
This season’s U16 National Club Cups have provided some thrilling matches for youth players across the country. Teams were drawn in pools at the beginning of the season and have been playing for places at finals day on 23 April.
U16 Girls Cup
We now know the girls’ finalists: Grange, Watsonians, GHK and Inverleith.
Grange won Pool A with two comfortable wins against Dundee Wanderers and Kelburne, and received a walkover win from ESM. Kelburne still need to play Wanderers to decide the runners-up.
The Pool B winners are Watsonians, who scored 29 goals and conceded none in their three matches. Gullane, Hillhead and Western Wildcats found the maroons too strong this season. Hillhead’s 5-3 win against Gullane gave them 2nd place.
GHK topped Pool C with a 100% record. They were made to work hard against Fjordhus Reivers before recording a 2-0 win. However, they hit nine goals against both Edinburgh HC and Granite City Wanderers to secure their place in the finals. Reivers’ 4-0 win v Edinburgh HC gave them 2nd spot.
The last finals’ place went to Pool D champions, Inverleith. A thrilling 3-2 win against runners-up Clydesdale Western made the difference, after beating Perthshire. Grove Menzieshill then conceded their last match.

U16 Boys Cup
The boys have played two rounds of pool matches, but all teams still have one match to play on 5 March. Nobody has yet guaranteed a place in the finals, with seven teams still in contention. Each of the three pool winners and the best runner-up (one team) will qualify.
ESM are in the driving seat in Pool A after wins against Kelburne (4-0) and Uddingston (3-2) but Edinburgh HC could pip them with a 3-goal win when they play each other. However, Kelburne’s impressive 9-1 win against Edinburgh HC puts them in a strong position if they can beat Uddingston.
Grove Menzieshill lead Watsonians on goal difference in Pool B, with both having 100% records before the two teams meet in the final match. The Dundonians put four goals past both Clydesdale and Hillhead, and ‘Sonians had 3-1 and 4-2 wins against the same opponents respectively.
In Pool C, Inverleith’s wins against Western Wildcats and Dundee Wanderers sees them out front, with Perthshire to play. However, Wildcats will look to take advantage of any slip-up when they play Wanderers in their last match.
It’s all to play for on Sunday 5 March!
