ARTHUR McKAY SCOTTISH CUP – QUARTER FINALS.
CALA Edinburgh provided the shock of the quarter-finals
of the Arthur McKay Scottish Cup by knocking Giffnock, third in the
national league, out of the competition. The foundation of
CALA`s victory was two goals from Emma Watson with Amber McNeill
getting the other for the Capital outfit.
Milne Craig Western advanced into the semi-finals with a
comfortable 2-0 win over Edinburgh University at Titwood. The
home side took the lead in 15 minutes, Holly Cram, just on the
pitch for a matter of seconds, found herself free at the top of the
circle and fired a fierce reverse stick shot into the
net. Western should have had the game sewn up by the
interval but missed several chances to increase their lead, and
just on the interval Edinburgh`s Sam Judge almost equalised but her
half chance hit the side net.
Judge then hit the post at a penalty corner three minutes into
the second half, but the result was sealed with a penalty corner
strike by Catriona Ralph.
VWS Dundee Wanderers also progressed with a 4-0 win over Western
Wildcats at Auchenhowie. Sam Sangster`s set piece strike was
the only goal of the first half, but after the break Amy Rowan from
a Jessica Ross pass, Heather Elder with a deflection and Julie
Bryce from an acute angle added to the Wanderers` total.
It took a very late strike from internationalist Leigh Fawcett
to give holders Grove Menzieshill the nod over a plucky Kelburne
side on Tayside. It was 1-1 at the interval, an early
Kerry Nunnerie opener was cancelled out by Grove`s Jaime
Lyon. Hazel Hall gave the home side a 2-1 lead, but back came
the Paisley outfit to draw level through Frances McKeown, before
Fawcett notched the late winner to avoid the blushes.
In the men`s competition, second division leaders AAM Gordonians
got their first taste of the standard in the top flight against
champions Glynhill Kelburne, but foundered 8-1 in the
process. Ironically, it was the Granite City men to
took an unexpected lead in only nine minutes with a penalty corner
conversion by Joe Evans, but by the interval Jonny Christie, Mark
Ralph from a penalty corner and Alan Forsyth from the spot had
given the Paisley outfit a 3-1 lead.
It was a procession of goals for Kelburne after the interval,
Forsyth completed his hat-trick, Christie scored his second while
Willie Marshall and Ross McIntrye completed the scoring.
In the only first division clash, Grange continued their good
run of form by seeing off AMN Hillhead 5-1, the goals came from Rob
Barr, Hamish Imrie, Fraser Sands, Martin Johnstone and Matt Connor,
Iain Hilton scored the consolation for the Glasgow side.
Two goals each from Phil Hall and Derek Salmond was the
foundation of Inverleith`s 5-3 win over second division Gra
