BRAVE Cup off to a goal scoring start in Strathallan

Devils 1-3 (3-4) Thunder (Aspiring Girls)

Thunder got off to a winning start in the Aspiring Girls Brave Cup 2025 with a 3-1 win over Devils at Strathallan School. Thunder then picked up the bonus point with a 4-3 win in the shootout.

Devils started the contest well and fashioned two early chances but Thunder dealt with the danger well.

It was an even contest lacking clear chances at goal. The first opportunity arrived in the second quarter when Thunder’s Alex Burdon’s drag flick struck the left post and zipped clear.

A counter attack for Thunder early in the second half saw Ava Heasley hit the side netting from the right at a tight angle.

Devils found the opener when a lovely finish by Tabitha Peck fizzed into the bottom left corner for 1-0.

Thunder burst into life and a passing move through the circle saw Lily Mckaig fire the ball low into the net to equalise. 1-1.

Then in the final quarter an Ava Graham penalty corner crashed into the bottom right corner to put Thunder ahead at 2-1.

The win for Thunder was secured when they broke into the Devils circle and switched the ball to the far post for Mckaig 5 to finish. 3-1.

The battle for the bonus point was epic and it took 13 rounds in the shootout before Thunder eventually won 4-3.

Devils 3-5 (1-3) Thunder (Aspiring Boys)

A goal-laden aspiring boys’ opening match of BRAVE Cup 2025 saw Thunder defeat Devils 5-3 at Strathallan. The bonus point in the shootout also went to Thunder with a 3-1 win.

Devils started fast and quickly took the lead. Alex Thomson swept the ball home on the reverse to make it 1-0.

Devils were denied a swift second goal when a penalty corner was well saved by the keeper.

The Devils second goal arrived soon enough when a penalty corner routine was finished off by Theo Wood for 2-0.

Thunder pulled one back before the end of the first quarter through a cut back and finish by Cameron Mitchell to make it 2-1.

There was a quick equaliser for Thunder when Andrew McGrane swept a drag flick into the bottom left corner for 2-2.

Thunder then took the lead when Angus Millar burst into the circle from the left and slipped the ball through the keeper’s legs for 3-2.

A penalty stroke was awarded to Thunder but they were denied a fourth goal by an excellent diving save to the right.

The fourth goal for Thunder would come soon enough and it was another corner by McGrane into the bottom left corner that made it 4-2.

In the final quarter a swift attack down the left was finished off by a scooped finish into the roof of the net by Murray Bett to make it 5-2 for Thunder.

Devils bit back quickly with a close range finish by Alex Thomson making it 5-3, but there would be no further goals and Thunder took the win.

Devils 2-1 (3-4) Thunder (Emerging Girls)

Devils defeated Thunder 2-1 on day one of the Emerging Girls BRAVE Cup 2025 at Strathallan. The shootout bonus point went to Thunder with a 4-3 win.

A slow start to the game was sparked into life when Devils took the lead. Connie East turned and shot towards goal and the ball squeezed under the goalkeeper for 1-0.

Thunder almost equalised at the stroke of half time but a powerful penalty corner fizzed just wide of the left post.

Early in the second half Thunder equalised when Lucy Langlands slammed the ball home for 1-1.

Late in the final quarter Devils got back in front and it was a delightful near post deflection by Ruby Hudson that made it 2-1, and claimed the home victory.

A tight and tense shootout went to Thunder with a 4-3 win in sudden death.

 

Devils 5-2 (3-2) Thunder (Emerging Boys)

The last game of the day saw Devils defeat Thunder 5-2 in Emerging Boys’ BRAVE Cup 2025 at Strathallan. A 3-2 win in the shootout saw the Devils take the bonus point.

Devils came out fast and immediately went searching for goals. Yash Chiniwala sped forward on a mazy run and shot just wide of the left post.

It didn’t take long for Devils to take the lead and it came via an Ollie Holden penalty stroke into the bottom right corner for 1-0.

In the second quarter Devils looked certain to go two ahead but for a spectacular last gasp save by Kerr Hopcroft low to his left.

Devils survived a plethora of penalty corners as half time approached and Thunder could taste an equaliser.

Early in the second half the Thunder equaliser arrived as they took their first half momentum forward. 1-1.

Devils went back in front from the penalty spot when Loghan Gruar found the bottom left corner for 2-1.

It went to 3-1 when Brian Bruce John McGarrity fired low into the net for Devils.

McGarrity made it 4-1 to Devils in the final quarter with a low shot across the keeper into the bottom right corner.

James Sheridan pulled one back for Thunder from a penalty corner rebound at the left post to make it 4-2.

Devils then restored their three goal advantage when McGarrity bagged his hat trick from a penalty corner for 5-2 to complete the scoring.

Devils also took the bonus point with a 3-2 win in the shootout.
