Action-packed finals at Senior Schools’ Cup 2025
Senior Boys Cup – Strathallan 2-4 Fettes College
Fettes College lifted the Senior Boys Cup with a 4-2 victory over Strathallan at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.
It was a feisty opening to the contest with Fettes edging the play but Strathallan dealing with the threat well.
Strathallan took the lead from a penalty corner opportunity. Hanno Schlaak blasted the ball home from a rebound to make it 1-0.
Fettes struck back as half time approached and the goal came from a low powerful penalty corner strike fir 1-1.
Early in the second half Fettes won a penalty stroke. Edward May stepped up to blast the ball into the roof of the net for 2-1.
In the blink of an eye Cody Adams found the back of the net but his celebrations were cut short as the goal was chopped off.
There was more agony for Adams when he had a second goal chopped off for a back stick a short time later.
The game saw another penalty stroke and this time it went to Strathallan; Schlaak stepped up to bury the ball into the bottom left corner for 2-2.
Jamie Bruce then scored a stunning finish into the roof of the net to put Fettes back in front at 3-2.
Fettes sealed the victory with another penalty stroke effortlessly converted by Adams to make it 4-2.
Senior Girls Cup – George Watsons College 1-1 (3-1) Mary Erskines School
It took a tense shootout to separate the teams after a 1-1 draw in the Senior Girls’ Cup, but it was George Watsons College who defeated Mary Erskines School 3-1 to lift the silverware.
It was a high quality opening to the match with both sides playing fast and precise hockey. In a half that didn’t fashion any clean openings there was a lot of slick play as the teams figured out how to break each other down.
A swift break for George Watsons midway in the second half looked like it would create a good chance but the Mary Erskines defence swarmed the attack and cleared the danger.
The opening goal finally arrived and it went to Mary Erskines School. Ann Njoroge won the ball on the right and surged into the circle before slipping a pass across goal for Isla Youngs, who popped the ball home from close range for 1-0.
With three minutes remaining George Watsons bagged an equaliser. An inventive penalty corner was forced over the line by Fluer Stewart to make it 1-1, which took it to a shootout.
A tense and dramatic shootout was won 3-1 by George Watsons College to lift the Senior Girls’ Cup.
Senior Girls Challenge Cup – St Aloysius 3-0 St Margarets School
A superb 3-0 victory saw St Aloysius triumph over St Margarets School to win the Cenior Girls’ Challenge Cup at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.
It was a tentative opening to the match with both sides taking time to suss each other out amidst a great atmosphere in Glasgow.
Midway through the half it was a moment of magic to open the scoring. A penalty corner saw the ball injected to Ava Graham at the top of the circle, and Graham shuffled, beat a player, and crashed the ball home for 1-0 to St Aloysius.
The goal settled St Aloysius into a dominant rhythm as they went searching for a second goal. That second goal came soon enough and it was Graham who struck again from a penalty corner into the bottom left corner. 2-0.
In the second half St Aloysius furthered its advantage when Erin Sadler slid the ball home from close range to make it 3-0.
A fourth goal looked likely as St Aloysius peppered the St Margarets goal for another, but there would be no further strikes and a 4-0 win was enough to claim the trophy.
Senior Boys Plate – High School of Dundee 4-4 (3-4) Loretto
A tense shootout was won 4-3 by Loretto after a 4-4 draw in the Senior Boys’ Plate Final in Glasgow.
High School of Dundee opened the scoring when Henry Steel deflected the ball into the roof of the net after a cross from the right side. 1-0.
It soon went to 2-0 when John Donald slid a low drag flick into the goal with just five minutes played, and capitalise on the great start for High School of Dundee.
Loretto began to bite back and a clinical penalty corner finish by Archie Miller saw them claw the score back to 2-1 right before half time.
Shortly after the restart, High School of Dundee came agonisingly close to a third goal but Steel was denied by the steel frame of the goal and the ball zipped clear.
The third goal for High School of Dundee came soon enough and it was a fierce penalty corner strike by Donald that made it 3-1.
Loretto kept plugging away and eventually pulled it back to 3-2 when Douglas Watt picked out Max Salter at the far post to finish into an empty net.
The High School of Dundee two-goal cushion was soon restored when Francis Maughan slipped a low effort into the net for 4-2.
In the blink of an eye Miller struck again for Loretto to bring the score back to 4-3, then moments later they equalised. A penalty corner strike by Felix Schneider fizzed into the bottom right corner for 4-4, and a shootout.
A tense shootout went to the last penalty and it was Loretto who took the spoils with a 4-3 win.
Senior Girls Plate – The Glasgow Academy 1-4 Dollar Academy
A sensational performance by Dollar Academy saw them beat Glasgow Academy 4-1 to lift the Senior Girls Plate.
The match was full of quality from the outset with lots of lovely interplay from both sides but a lack of shots on goal.
The first attempt of the match resulted in a goal on the cusp of half time. A swift attack down the left saw the ball played inside for Sarah Cassells who crashed a low shot past the goalkeeper for 1-0.
The opener quickly prompted another goal and it was Dollar who doubled their lead. A penalty corner rebound was slammed home be India Stevens to make it 2-0 at the break.
The second half was five minutes old when Dollar banked a third goal and it was Mia Fulton who fired home to make it 3-0 after a drive into the circle from Cassells.
Amy Jenkinson zipped the ball home from a tight angle to make it 4-0 midway through the second half as Dollar consolidated its advantage.
Glasgow Academy pulled one back with five minutes left to play. A penalty corner rebound fell kindly for Orla Millar who coolly picked her spot in the bottom right corner for 4-1.
The goal prompted an all guns blazing approach to the end of the game but it brought no further goals and Dollar clocked up a 4-1 victory.
Senior Girls Challenge Plate – Earlston High School 0-4 St Columbas
St Columbas won the Senior Girls Challenge Plate with a 4-0 victory over St Columbas at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.
The game was evenly matched with a fast start but it was St Columbas who took the lead from a penalty corner rebound. The first effort from Ava Heasley was blocked prompting the ball to loop up into the air, and Emma Ventham was on hand to slam it down into the net for 1-0.
It went to 2-0 for St Columbas when from a penalty corner routine, Heasley’s shot from the right this time found the net with a scooped effort past the keeper.
The second half began with St Columbas pressing for more goals and the relentless pressure eventually paid off when Heasley surged in from the left and slipped a low shot home for 3-0.
The third goal was quickly followed by a fourth and it was Esther Walker who slotted a penalty stroke into the bottom right corner for 4-0, and to complete the scoring.
Aspire Girls Cup – Balerno High School 0-3 McLaren High School
The Aspire Girls Cup was won by McLaren High School with a 3-0 victory over Balerno High School at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.
McLaren started the game well and piled on the pressure in the early stages and were rewarded with the opening goal. Receiving the ball at a penalty corner, a low strike into the backboard made it 1-0 to McLaren.
Megan Donaldson soon made it 2-0 to McLaren when she forced the ball home from close range in the midst of a circle stramash.
In the second half Balerno did a good job of pressing the McLaren circle as they went searching for a goal to pull themselves back into the contest, but it was McLaren who came closest to scoring next with good counter attacks.
The next goal would come from the team in gold and blue and it was Connie Bateman who fired low into the bottom left corner to make it 3-0.
The third goal took the sting out of the game and sealed the victory, and trophy, for McLaren High School.
Aspire Boys Cup – Morrisons Academy 0-3 Trinity Academy
A superb 3-0 victory for Trinity Academy saw them win the Aspire Boys Cup against Morrisons Academy at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.
A great start for Trinity Academy saw them take an early lead. Some neat build up down the left saw an opportunity fashioned for Josh Davidson to fire at goal, and he made no mistake finding the bottom left corner. 1-0.
A second goal came for Trinity from a penalty corner rebound. First a great save denied a goal from the corner strike, then the ball was cleared off the line, but Cian McAree opportunistically scooped it into the net for 2-0.
Morrisons began the second half with good tempo and began to ask some questions of the Trinity backline.
As the game got to the closing stages the action went from end-to-end and it was Trinity who would find the net. They found Zak Turtle on the right of the circle and he crashed a low strike into the bottom left corner for 3-0, and to finish the scoring.
