Action packed day of youth hockey at Glasgow National Hockey Centre
Youth Club Cup Finals
Under 14 Boys
Hillhead 0-3 ESM
Glasgow National Hockey Centre was the venue for four action packed youth finals today. In the first of those, Hillhead faced off against ESM. In the 7th minute Lewin Graham opened the scoring and it was 2-0 at half time after Samuel Liddell finished off a penalty corner. Hillhead worked hard to try and get back into the game but ultimately it was ESM who scored a third through Mark Williamson to win the 2026 Under 14 Boys Cup.
Under 14 Girls
Grange 1-0 Edinburgh HC
In the girls final it was a close game between the two Edinburgh clubs. Both teams had chances early on but neither team could finish one off. The only goal of the game came in the second half courtesy of Lucy Gammell from a penalty corner to give Grange a hard fought win.
Under 16 Boys
Hillhead 7-3 Inverleith
In the Under 16 boys final Hillhead were up against Inverleith. In an exciting game, Hillhead took an early lead through Gregor Hedley. They would double their lead in the final minute of the quarter through Amar Sagoo but Inverleith immediately hit back with a goal of their own from Kaze Cordero. In the second quarter Hillhead hit three without reply, Sagoo grabbed his second before Calum McNeil and Ruari MacAulay got their names on the scoresheet to give Hillhead a 5-1 lead.
Kaze Cordero would pull one back for Inverleith in the third quarter from a penalty corner but a Sam Johnson double put the game out of reach as Hillhead opened up a five goal lead. Tom Bennett grabbed a late penalty corner goal for Inverleith but it was just a consolation as Hillhead retained the Under 16 Cup.
Under 16 Girls
Grange 5-2 Watsonians
In the final game of the day, Grange ran out winners over Watsonians. Remarkably, all 7 goals came in the first half of the match. By the end of the first quarter Grange had a 3-2 lead, they were two up after 5 minutes thanks to goals from Sadie Shaw and Holly Halpin but a double from Rosalie Peck brough Watsonians right back into the game. Lucy Pilinger regained the lead for Grange before the end of the quarter. In the second quarter it was the duo of Shaw and Halpin again who stretched Grange’s lead to three with what would turn out to be the final goals of the game. Both teams had chances in the second half but to no avail, and the match ended with Grange winning 5-2.
