Aberdeen Asset Management National League Divisions 2 and 3 preview
This weekend will see the completion of the first half
of the season in Aberdeen Asset Management National League
Divisions 2 and 3.
In Men’s Division 2, sixth place Granite City Wanderers host
Dundee Uni. Having already defeated the Dundonians away from home
last week in an enthralling 3-2 victory, Wanderers will favour
their chances of replicating that victory. However the University
side will be keen to get back to winning ways in order to ensure
they don’t get mired in a relegation battle.
This weekend’s games in Men’s Division 3 are significant as the
league will split into the top seven and bottom six pools following
these matches. Already confirmed in the top pool are the Midland
contingent of Perthshire, FMGM Monarchs and league leaders Harris,
together with Erskine Stewart’s Melville and Ayr. The remaining two
spots can be grabbed by Giffnock, Waverley, Aberdeen Uni,
Strathclyde Uni or Stirling Uni.
Traveling side Strathclyde Uni face a tough encounter against
fourth place Monarchs, who already have guaranteed a place in the
top seven following three victories in a row. However the Glasgow
students will go in to the match with confidence following last
week’s 3-0 win over Stirling Uni.
Meanwhile, Giffnock host Stirling Wanderers, with the Glasgow side
needing a win to have an outside chance of making the top half.
Favourites for one of the spots should be Aberdeen Uni who have won
their last two games and they entertain Greenock at the Sports
Village. Stirling Uni make the short trip to take on Perthshire at
Kilgraston and Waverley Inveresk Trinity face a local derby against
Erskine Stewart’s Melville.
The Women’s Aberdeen Asset Management National League Division 2
has already finished up for the winter break with Granite City
Wanderers currently in first place, but with only 3 points
separating them and fifth place Border Fjordhus Reivers the race
for the title and promotion spots will be a close run thing in the
second half of the season.
In Division 3 league leaders AAM Merlins Gordonians travel to play
eighth place Bon Accord MBC. This will prove a tough test for Bon
Accord who hope to be the first team this season in the league to
take points from Merlins, who have won all of their ten matches.
Bottom placed Ayr will hope to end their losing streak and put
points on the board against Dundee Uni. This could prove a
challenge for Ayr as Dundee have the incentive of catapulting their
way up to second place with a victory. Meanwhile Strathclyde take
on Stirling Uni, who play again the day after against Ayr.
