U14 Boys Club Cup Final
Hillhead 6-3 Inverleith
The match started with early pressure from Inverleith who had a good chance saved by Rory Comerford in the Hillhead goal. In the 8th minute Hillhead earned a penalty corner which well worked and finished at the back post by Bob Buckland to make it 1-0.
In the final two minutes of the quarter, Hillhead doubled their lead with lovely goal from Ruari MacAulay. A ball through the middle and MacAulay played a one-two round the keeper with Oliver Andrews before finishing off the chance from close range.
Hillhead made it 3-0 in the 3rd minute of the second quarter, another well worked penalty corner was finished off by Calum McNeil.
Inverleith then had a chance to get one back but their shot went just wide. In the final minute of the half Inverleith had a great chance to pull one back, a good run up the right hand side but the cut back was sent narrowly wide of the post, at half time the score remained 3-0.
The second half started brightly and right away there was a chance for Hillhead but MacAulay’s shot was well saved by the Isaac Smith in goal for Inverleith. Midway through the quarter Inverleith had a chance well saved, a penalty corner soon followed and it was calmly worked to get a goal back through Robbie Law to make it 3-1. Hillhead quickly responded with an attack of their own resulting in a penalty corner, and Hamish Meikle restored their 3-goal lead. But it did not last long with seconds left of the quarter Inverleith got another goal back, a lovely low finish by Noah Cottam making it 4-2 with one quarter to play.
Inverleith started the final quarter as they ended the third, a penalty corner was awarded and duly finished off by Kaze Cordero to make it 4-3. This end to end game had more goals to give and Hillhead opened up a two goal lead again with a great finish from a penalty corner, Buckland grabbing his second of the game. As Inverleith pressed forward it opened up more opportunities and with two minutes to go Hillhead took advantage and a well taken goal by Finn McLachlan made it 6-3 and Hillhead retained their Under 14 Boys Club Cup.
U14 Girls Club Cup Final
Watsonians v Grange
An exciting girls final got underway in the sunshine and Watsonians found themselves with an early, Abbie Clark provided the finish. It was end to end stuff as Grange came into the game and just before the break were awarded a penalty corner. The initial strike was saved but the rebound was well finished by Sophie Clarkson to make it 1-1.
The game continued in this fashion, with lots of chances at both ends but neither team could find a breakthrough.
It took until the second minute of the final quarter for that goal to come. Watsonians took the lead, good work down the right hand side let to a chance for Elizabeth Sweetman, her first shot was saved but she made no mistake with her second attempt to make it 2-1. With 7 minutes to go, a fast Grange counterattack let to a penalty corner which after a couple of deflections eventually ended in the equalising goal, Sophie Clarkson getting her second of the match. Grange had a great chance to take the lead with 5 minutes to go, but a great save kept the scores level. In the final minute, a counterattack led to penalty corner for Watsonians and while on the attack they finally found the winner with the last touch of the game. Like all good cup finals deserve, this was a goal worthy of winning any game as Zoe Forrester struck the ball high into the net to claim the cup for Watsonians.
