Inverleith victorious at U18 Boys Indoor Final

U18 Boys Indoor Finals

Inverleith capped off a fantastic weekend for the club by prevailing in the Boys U18 Indoor Cup at the PEAK.

Eight teams contested two pools with the top teams facing off in the final.

In Pool A, Perthshire and Granite City Wanderers played out a 1-1 draw, Sudarman and Dunbar with the goals. Grange and Uddingston also opened their day with a draw. Uddingston took the lead through Ben Young, Grange fought back with a quick double from Harrison Murphy and Sol Ramsay to lead 2-1 halfway through the match. Uddingston took the lead thanks to strikes from Borland and Young but Grange would level the game in the latter stages through Jacob Jolly. In the third match of Pool A, Grange overcame Perthshire thanks to four goals from Cameron Miller. Thomas McInroy got a double for Perthshire but it was not enough to prevent Grange winning 4-2. Uddingston ultimately sealed their place in the final with two wins over Granite City Wanderers and Perthshire, first up was a 5-1 win over Granite City, a double from Young along with goals from Roach, Millar and McDonald gave them a comfortable win despite a late reply from Peter Temple. Miller, McDonald and Young were on target again as Uddingston went into a 3-0 lead against Perthshire, Duncan Bayne replied late on. Grange knew they needed to score more goals as they went into the last game against Granite City Wanderers, it was Granite City who opened the scoring in the first minute through Peter Temple, Miller and Jolly responded for Grange and as they pushed for more goals Nathan Lawson equalised and it ended 2-2.

In the opening match of Pool B, Kelburne came from behind to beat Grove Menzieshill 2-1. Findlay Duncan opened the scoring for the Dundee side, but two late goals from Andrew McGrane took the points for Kelburne. A hat trick apiece for Zak and Ben Turtle gave Inverleith a commanding win over Dundee Wanderers, Findlay Duncan added another for a 7-0 win. The Edinburgh side followed this up with a 4-1 win over Grove Menzieshill. Again Menzieshill took an early lead, this time through Alfie Bonnar, but were pegged back by goals from both Turtles, James Gordon and Thomas Temperly.

Kelburne made it two wins from two with a win over Dundee Wanderers. In back and forth game, both teams shared goals through Norrie, C Gruar, Legget and Law before and Andrew McGrane double saw the game finish 4-2. Fittingly the group would be decided on goal difference as Inverleith and Kelburne played out a 2-2 draw, Kelburne took the lead through Bett but Inverleith replied through Zak Turtle and Temperly, Scott Love equalised from a penalty corner in the final minute. In the final game of Pool B, a Dundee derby ended 1-1 as Rhuri Blair and John Donald scored the goals. Inverleith would meet Uddingston in the final as they had a superior goal difference.

Final – Uddingston v Inverleith

In a great final match, Uddingston took an early lead through Ben Young. Both teams exchanged close efforts throughout the first half and it was just before the break when Ben Turtle netted the equaliser for Inverleith. It was a double whammy from Turtle as in the first minute of the second half he put his side in the lead with a wonderful finish. Uddingston fought back and despite multiple penalty corners they just could not find the equaliser. As they pulled their goalkeeper they pushed for the equaliser, but an overtime penalty corner finish from Fergus Roberts meant it was Inverleith who were victorious, following on from their Women’s and Men’s 1s success at the senior Indoor Gala Day.

A huge thank you to our umpires and officials, as well as all coaches and parents for coming along to the event.
