100 Years of Scottish Hockey reissued in a free digital version!
To mark the centenary of Scottish Hockey back in 2000, The Scottish Hockey published a fascinating book entitled “100 Years of Scottish Hockey”, and today we’re reissuing the book as a free to access digital version. You can access the book HERE.
Its 120 pages are packed with historical information, personal reminiscences, anecdotes and special articles on Scots and their association with the Olympics, the Rules of the Game, Indoor Hockey, Coaching and Umpiring and their long and continuing influence in the International Hockey Federations.
Also included is the story of 100 years of international hockey – the first international hockey match was played by the Scottish women in 1901, the men in 1902 both against Ireland.
Later reports provide a record of international and club competitions indoor and outdoor, at home and abroad – Scottish teams have played hockey in all the continents.
Generously illustrated, the photographs include publication of the scoring of the first ever Olympic goal by Ivan Laing of Hawick when playing for Scotland against Germany in the first Olympic hockey match at the 1908 London Olympics. As far as is known this is the only occasion that Scotland have made a separate appearance in any Olympic sport.
The publication is an interesting read for any enthusiast with an interest in sport.
