Uddingston umpire development going from strength to strength
Uddingston Hockey Club continue to invest in the development of the umpire talent pool in their club through implementing an umpire development programme this season.
The club have aimed to develop and produce more umpires across all levels of the club, including a target to have the majority of their senior players at least badged at C level by 2017.
The programme will see all seven senior teams attend umpire theory and rules update days prior to matches on a Saturday, which has so far resulted in 80 senior members taking part and the achievement of 31 badged umpires and 30 members passingtheir theory test and ready to take part in coaching matches or actual test matches.
The remaining teams Gents 1s and 3s will go through the programme this Saturday with the club then looking to get as many members practically coached or tested over the remainder of this and next season.
As well as senior players we are also engaging with youth players by holding similar days but aimed more at explaining the rules with the view of allowing them to develop their umpiring knowledge so that once they are old enough umpiring will be seen as a normal thing that you do as well as playing, coaching etc.
The club would like to thanks our umpires group for driving this programme forward and in particular Jacqui McDove and Fraser Bell who have worked very closely with West District and Scottish Hockey Umpiring Convenors.
Please visit the Umpiring and Officiating section for more information about umpire development and qualifications.
