Scottish Hockey announces establishment of task force
Scottish Hockey has announced further detail on the Task Force Steering Group that will investigate and consider the most suitable approach and structure for season 2020/21.
The Task Force Steering Group, consisting of a number of subgroups and key stakeholders, will ask the subgroups to consider a range of topics and to report back with recommendations.
The task force will report to the board of Scottish Hockey.
It is intended that the task force will consult with member clubs with a view to building a route map, aligned to Scottish Government guidance, for the season ahead. The remaining individuals in the task force will be confirmed by Monday.

The membership of each group is as follows:
Steering Group:
- Chair: Justine Westwood, Board Director
- Karin McKenny: Board Director
- Stephen Martin: Board Director and High Performance subgroup lead
- John Mackenzie: SHU President
- Peter Gillespie: SHU Vice President – subgroup lead
- Umpires representative – subgroup lead
- District President x 1: responsible for engaging with all other districts
- Jamie Frail: Head of Domestic Game – and member of the Teams subgroup;
- Andy Tennant: Head of Performance – and member of the High Performance subgroup;

Key Responsibilities
- On behalf of the Scottish Hockey Board oversee the activities detailed within the terms of reference to be confirmed soon;
- Develop and implement communication and engagement activity plan;
- Develop proposals for the structure of the outdoor leagues in 2021/22;
- Develop scenarios for restarting play;
- Working with the subgroups, develop associated options for the competitive structure in 2021/22 ensuring all equalities implications are considered;
- Provide regular updates on progress to the board, escalating any issues that cannot be resolved at steering group level;
- Provide recommendations on the structure of the outdoor leagues in 2021/22 and associated competitive structures to the board.

Key Responsibilities
As directed by the Steering Group, including but not restricted to:
- Discuss and respond to proposals from the Steering Group on the structure of the outdoor leagues in 2021/22, providing any solutions to any issues or concerns raised;
- Develop options for the associated league format, including consideration as to whether cup competitions should/could also be played, engaging with other teams in the relevant league as appropriate, and with the Officials subgroup;
- Provide recommendations to the Steering Group.
Subgroup: Officials

Key Responsibilities
As directed by the Steering Group, including but not restricted to:
- Discuss and respond to proposals from the Steering Group on the structure of the outdoor leagues in 2021/22, providing any solutions to any issues or concerns raised from an officials’ perspective;
- Input to the development by the Teams subgroup of a small number of scenarios for restarting play, and options for the associated league format, including consideration as to whether cup competitions should/could also be played;
- Provide recommendations to the Steering Group.
Subgroup: High Performance
- Chair: Stephen Martin, Board member
- Andy Tennant, Head of Performance
Chair to confirm additional membership, but potentially including:
- Premiership representatives;
- International representatives x 2 (m/f);
- NAG representative x 2 (m/f).
Key Responsibilities
As directed by the Steering Group, including but not restricted to:
- Discuss and respond to proposals from the Steering Group on the structure of the outdoor leagues in 2021/22, providing any solutions to any issues or concerns raised from High Performance perspective;
- From the High Performance perspective, develop options for the associated league format including consideration as to whether cup competitions should/could also be played, with a particular focus on top of the league playoffs and support for the international programme as it restarts at all levels, engaging with other teams in the league as appropriate, and with the Officials subgroup;
- Provide recommendations to the Steering Group.
