The course is aimed at young people wishing to support the Fun Start stage of Scottish Hockey’s player pathway. It is also useful for parent helpers, teachers and other volunteers with little or no hockey experience, but who are interested supporting the delivery of the sport.

Course attendees must be a minimum of 12 years of age and need very little experience of hockey but an enthusiasm to assist children play hockey.

Course content includes the following focus areas:

  • Challenging perceptions of hockey
  • Develop confidence to deliver fun games as part of initial warm up
  • Become familiar with SH’s player pathway and game play formats (4s, 6s, 8s)
  • Develop confidence to manage game play as a Game Instructor

The cost is £15 and is 4 hours in duration.

Delivery can be flexible to suit the needs of the tutor and attendees or facility access.  The course can be delivered in 1 day (4 hours) or split into smaller sections over 2 or more days.

The Leaders Course requires a Tutor, who has completed the Scottish Hockey Leaders Tutor training. Tutors are often experienced club coaches or members with facilitation or teaching skills.  The course is then delivered to their own club members and through partnerships, to the wider hockey community e.g. Active Schools Co-ordinators and Primary Teachers etc.
