Hockey success at Dundee Sports Awards
The MJV Dundee Wanderers Ladies hockey team, who in February gained promotion to the top level in European Indoor Hockey with a silver medal finish in Lithuania, returned home just in time to celebrate an honour in their home town.
The Dundee Wanderers Ladies 1st team received the Abertay University Team of the Year Award at the Dundee Annual Sports Awards at Caird Hall.
For this award there were five teams from various sports shortlisted and the final decision was made following votes cast via a Radio Tay public vote.
The key to Wanderers’ success was becoming National Indoor League Champions, gaining a Merit Award from the European Hockey Federation (EHF) for hosting an excellent Euro Tournament in 2016, becoming Scottish Cup semi-finalists and National Outdoor League third place
Grove-Menzieshill Ladies were amongst the five nominated teams.
There was also an honour for one of Scotland’s top umpires. Grove Menzieshill’s Sarah Wilson, in recognition of her participation as an Umpire at the Rio Olympics, was given a special Olympic Roll of Honour Award.
