Goals a plenty at Perth

SUBWAY INDOOR NATIONAL LEAGUE (MEN) – BELLS SPORTS
CENTRE, PERTH

Inverleith and Grove Menzieshill continue their war of
attrition for this season`s Subway indoor national league title,
both sides won their games today with considerable
ease.

The Taysiders still hold a three point lead with a head to head
coming up next weekend.  The fate of the crown could come down
to goal difference, Menzieshill started today with a ten goal lead,
but Inverleith took advantage of three substantial victories to
sneak four goals ahead at the end of proceedings.

In their first game Inverleith saw off the banana skin fixture
with Kelburne with a very comfortable 13-1 win, the main
contributors were Graham Moodie with four and a hat-trick by
Stephen Dick.  In their second game two goals by Dick and
another from Derek Salmond gave the Edinburgh side a three goal
lead against VWS Dundee Wanderers at the interval.  In the
second half Salmond scored another three, Dick got his hat-trick,
John Harris found the net twice and Moodie finished off the scoring
for 10-1 – Rory Taylor got the consolation for Wanderers.

Clydesdale were then the veritable lambs to the slaughter to the
Inverleith goal machine which notched up a 16-1 score line.
Salmond and Dick were again in target with nap hands, Moodie scored
four and the others came from Andrew Malcolm  and Harris.

Against bottom side CALA Edinburgh the Menzieshill also showed
no mercy with a 16-1 victory.  There were four goals each for
Ross McPherson and Josh Cairns, with a bit of luck the latter could
have scored double that, Michael Ross notched a hat-trick, there
were doubles for Gavin Tomlinson and Chris Wilson, and Gavin Byers
made up the final total.  Shell-shocked CALA`s sole
consolation came from Richard McCorkell.

This was followed by a 7-0 mauling of Western Wildcats, a result
that was never really in doubt as the Taysiders were four up at the
interval through Gavin Byers (2), Chris Wilson and Cairns from a
penalty corner.  Menzieshill added three more in the second
half, Gavin Tomlinson from a set piece followed by a closing couple
from Ross.

Earlier Western Wildcats just sneaked it by the odd goal in nine
against a fighting Greaves Clydesdale outfit.  The Wildcats
seemed to be cruising at 5-2 in the second half with strikes from
Iain Moodie, Steven Percy, Niall McLeod and brothers Joe and
Douglas Simpson.  But two subsequent strikes from Ciaran
Crawford, he in fact scored all Clydesdale`s goals, made it
interesting at the end.

With four goals Fraser Sands was the catalyst in Grange`s 5-3
win over Dundee Wanderers.  Sands put the Edinburgh side two
up before Bobby Ralph pulled one back for the Dundonians by the
interval.  Grange raced into a 4-1 lead after the interval
through Sands again and Gary Cameron, but Ralph scored two more to
bring the contest back to 4-3.  Any upset was stifled when
Sands scored Grange`s fifth for the three points.

Grange and Kelburne fought out a thrilling 8-8 draw, the latter
scoring two goals in the final minutes through Alan Forsyth and 14
year old Fabien Goldie to gain a share of the points.  Sands
was again top scorer for the Edinburgh outfit with five goals,
while a Forsyth hat-trick and four from Willie Marshall were
Kelburne`s replies.

A 8-4 defeat at the hands of Clydesdale has virtually sent CALA
hurtling back into the second division after only a season in the
top flight.  CALA`s demise was mainly due to two goals each
from Mike MacKenzie and Adam Bain.

In the final game of the day Dundee Wanderers propelled
themselves to safety with a 9-1 win over CALA, there were t
