Club Development Co-ordinators employed to increase ‘Hockey Nights’ delivery in Scotland

Scottish Hockey has announced the appointment of four Club
Development Co-ordinators to increase its capacity to deliver its
‘Hockey Nights’ programme in partnership with the Scottish
Government’s ‘CashBack for Communities’ initiative.

The addition of the Club Development Co-ordinators will result in a
minimum of an extra 120 blocks of diversionary activities, i.e.
hockey sessions, to be delivered throughout local authority areas
in Scotland in the forthcoming twelve months.

Ben Glencross, Development Manager, said:

“The employment of the four Club Development Co-ordinators will
enable Scottish Hockey to more effectively deliver the objectives
of the Cashback for Communities initiative and our ‘Hockey Nights’
programme. Our ultimate aim is to increase the participation of
children and young adults in hockey via schools and local hockey
clubs in Scotland. These Club Co-ordinators will be able to develop
and strengthen these links and provide more opportunities to play
and enjoy hockey.”

Scottish Hockey has been delivering ‘Hockey Nights’ throughout the
country for the last year and has provided hockey sessions in all
but one local authority area in Scotland, reaching over 1600
children and young adults in localities where there are high
incidences of crime and anti-social behaviour. The ‘Hockey Nights’
initiative addresses both participation and diversion and aim to
increase the likelihood of positive long-term outcomes for those
who take part.

William Marshall was previously employed by Scottish Hockey through
the ‘Future Jobs Fund’ scheme. William plays for Kelburne and also
for the Scotland international team. He has proved himself an
excellent motivator of children and young adults, having helped
expand his club’s youth section during the nine months in his
previous role.

Graham Stuart has previously worked for Scottish Hockey, Basketball
Scotland and Table Tennis Scotland and brings a wealth of
experience to the role. Graham has a wealth of hockey experience as
a player, club coach and international team manager and will be a
great asset.

Scott Anderson was also employed as a Future Jobs fund Assistant
Hockey Development Officer for Angus. He already has experience of
delivering ‘Hockey Nights’ sessions in partnership with Angus
Council. He has a hockey background and experience from other
fields to bring to the post.

Graeme Campbell currently plays for Hillhead hockey club and has
previously represented Scotland in age group squads. His coaching
experience extends to clubs and schools, both here in Scotland and
also in Australia.
