Edinburgh’s Trinity Academy new state of the art sports facility is open
Saturday 27th August marked the opening of Trinity Academy Sports Campus, Edinburgh’s latest state of the art sports facility. The £10 million investment provides Trinity Academy pupils and members of the public with access to gym; fitness centre; outdoor and indoor sports facilities.
Trinity Academy runs a well-established hockey programme with teams participating in Scottish Hockey’s schools competitions. The new facility includes a full-size indoor hockey pitch and 2G astro, which will be used for training and fixtures for the school’s team. The facility will also support local club Waverley Inveresk Trinity in providing a training and playing facility.
The unveiling of the new sports facility was attended by, Scottish Hockey’s Chair, Martin Shepherdson; East District President, Liz Pettigrew; and East District Youth President, Janice Hudson-Windsor.
The players getting first use of the brand-new indoor hall were visited by Scotland U21s Internationalist, Jika Nyirenda. The players also enjoyed a Q&A with Jika then a short session where the U21 forward taught players some valuable indoor skills and practices.
Jemma McCusker, Physical Education Teacher and Head of Hockey at Trinity. Jemma said:
“The new facilities here at Bangholm are amazing, it has been a long time coming, but we feel very lucky to have such fantastic facilities to teach and coach in.
“It has been really lovely watching the young people’s faces entering the building for the first time over the last few weeks.
“We are thoroughly looking forward to starting the hockey season in our facility and look forward to hosting teams here throughout the season, as we feel very proud of our new facilities here at Bangholm.”
