2017 School Games Day 2 reports
Here are the match reports from day 2 of the 2017 School Games held on September 2nd 2017.
Girls Schools’ Games – Ulster 5-1 Scotland
Scotland Girls were beaten 5-1 by Ulster in their second match of the 2017 School Games in Loughborough.
It was a tough opening quarter for the Scots that saw Ulster soar into a 3-0 lead. The opening goal came in just six minutes and Sophie McDowell provided the strike to put Ulster in front.
It was 2-0 just four minutes later when Rebecca McCullough scored from open play before Katie McKee scored the third just before the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter Scotland issued a response and it came through a penalty corner strike by Olivia Bell to pull the Scots back into the contest.
Any prospect of a Scottish comeback was put to the sword by a third quarter McKee double from penalty corners, to bag her hat-trick and complete the scoring at 5-1 to Ulster.
Boys’ School Games – England Blue 4-4 Scotland
Scotland boys battled to their second 4-4 draw of the week in a hotly-contested clash with England Blue at the School Games.
The game had to wait until the second quarter for a goal and it was Scotland who struck first. Struan Walker was on hand to score in the 28th minute and put his side in front before half time.
The third quarter was laden with goals with four strikes in five minutes. First it was England Blue to score and equalise through Ethan Hoddle.
The English took the lead a minute later when Max Liebenhutz-Jones finished off a penalty corner to make it 2-1.
Scotland equalised a minute later when Andrew McConnell netted to level the scores for a second time. It was McConnell who was on hand moments later to put Scotland back in front with another clinical finish.
Into the final quarter and England Blue equalised once again with Max Deniff adding his name to the score sheet.
Scotland went ahead again as the game reached a close, Ewen Mackie struck from a penalty corner to make it 4-3.
England Blue equalised immediately through a penalty corner strike by Josh Powell to make it 4-4, which was how it ended.
