Under 21 women lost out to Ireland

Scotland`s women bowed out of the Celtic when they lost
2-1 to Ireland who take the trophy having beaten Wales 2-0 in an
earlier game.  

The Irish opened their account in only nine minutes through Leah
Ewart, the Scots gave the ball away just outside the circle and the
resulting low shot went past an unsighted Nicki
Cochrane.  

The Scots youngsters were soon back on level terms, Fiona Bruce
intercepted a pass out of the Irish defence and Milne Craig Western
striker fired in a low shot past the Irish goalkeeper.  There
were a few chances at either end, Cochrane had to look lively on a
couple of occasions to keep the Irish from gaining a second, while
in the closing minutes of the first half Louise Campbell had a
chance to give Scotland the lead.

Although the Scots exerted some early pressure after the
interval, it was Ireland who regained the lead at a penalty corner
with a shot from Brenda Flannery.  Although the Scots pressed
for the equaliser, they rarely really threatened until the final
ten minutes when Jenny Morris shot wide after good build-up work by
Sarah Robertson and then Campbell had an excellent opportunity but
failed to get her shot in.

“It was a rather dour, stop and start game, we had a lot of
pressure but not many clear-cut chances,” said Sharon Bissett,
Scotland`s manager.
