Uddingston experience narrow loss in Athens

 

Uddingston faced St Petersburg in their second game in Athens this evening. The game started at a ferocious pace as Uddingston matched the very physical Russian side. The opening exchanges were again very much in the middle of the park with both sides creating very little clear cut chances. Uddingston started to gain the upper hand with two short corners well saved from drag flicks by Laurie McKelvie. Uddingston failed to take advantage of their pressure towards the end of the half, going in to the break with with the teams all square.
Uddingston started the second half with the same momentum and were rewarded when some excellent passing set Steven Percy free to calmly slot past the keeper.
Uddingston did not sit back and continued to pressure but failed to convert to extend their advantage. Against the run of play, St Petersburg broke down their right hand side and some desperate defending from Uddingston failed to stop the equaliser.
Both sides pushed for the winner with chances for Uddingston falling to JonJo Lavin and Martin McIntosh but the killer blow came in the final minute. St Petersburg drove the baseline and a lucky deflection fell to their attacker who only had tap in to secure the victory.
Uddingston face home side Ethnikos in their final encounter tomorrow afternoon and will be looking to finish on a high.

The Scots started to gain the upper hand with two short corners well saved from drag flicks by Laurie McKelvie. However, they failed to take advantage of their pressure towards the end of the half, going in to the break with with the teams all square at 0-0.

Uddingston started the second half with the same momentum and were rewarded when some excellent passing set Steven Percy free to calmly slot past the keeper to take a 1-0 lead. They continued to pressure the Russian side but failed to convert to extend their advantage.

Then, gainst the run of play, St Petersburg broke down their right hand side and some desperate defending from Uddingston failed to stop the equaliser.
