Three down to Chinese

SCOTLAND   0  CHINA  3  (SENIOR
WOMEN) –  WAKEFIELD   20 JULY 2012

Scotland`s senior women, ranked 18th in the world,
finally lost 3-0 to a Chinese side that were 13 places above them
in the international rankings and on their way to the London
Olympics in the first challenge match at Wakefield
today.  

There was little between the teams in the first half, Scotland
goalkeeper Amy Gibson had a diving save to the right to keep a
clean sheet, while at the other end Nikki Kidd made her way into
the circle only for Holly Cram to fail to connect with her
cross.  Not long after Vikki Bunce had an outside chance but
her effort was charged down by Chinese defenders.

With VWS Dundee Wanderers` midfielder Vikki Bunce rested in the
second period through injury, the Scots went behind to a penalty
corner through a deflection, then a fierce reverse stick shot flew
past Amy Gibson in the Scotland goal, while another set piece
strike made it 3-0.  

In the closing minutes the Scots had a chance to pull one back,
Amy Brodie moved into the circle, released the ball to Holly Cram
whose drive was saved by the Chinese goalkeeper and the chance was
gone.
