Sixth place finish for Edinburgh University in the Euros
Edinburgh University 1-2 AHTC Vien (Austria)
It was a tough end to the women`s EuroHockey Club Trophy 11 tournament for Edinburgh University.
The students went down 2-1 to Austrian side AHTC Wien in the play-off and finished with a sixth place ranking – certainly not what coach Sam Judge was aiming for.
With a degree of brevity Sam said, “It’s disappointing. We didn`t achieve our goals.”
The first quarter was destined to be goalless until Katharina Proksch put the Austrians ahead in the final minute. However, the Scots were level by the interval when Jika Nyirenda equalised from open play for her first goal of the tournament.
And that is how it stood going into the final minutes with the contest heading for a shoot-out conclusion, but with three minutes left Hannah Szladits provided Wien with the winner and a final fifth place in the tournament.
