Scotland U21 men draw with England in Loughborough before winning the shootout

After a close 2-2 draw at full time Scotland u21 men defeated England 2-1 in a shootout in Loughborough.

It was an exciting performance from the Scots from the first whistle, and Fraser Moran got the team off to a great start by striking twice for a 2-0 lead.

The opening goal came courtesy of a penalty stroke and Moran dispatched comfortably for a 1-0 advantage.

Moran made it 2-0 with a lovely deflection finish on the backhand to put Scotland in the ascendancy.

There were a number of other opportunities for Scotland but some good goalkeeping kept the Scots at bay. In particular a great stop denied Keir Robb after he cut in from the baseline for an attempt at goal.

England pulled one back in the second half before bagging the crucial equaliser in the closing stages of the game.

The contest went to a shootout and Nic Hadland in goal for Scotland was exceptional in helping Scotland to a 2-1 victory.

Head Coach Rhett Halkett said, “It was a great performance considering the little time we’ve had together. The players can be very proud of their performance and there is a lot of exciting things to build on. The draw at full time was probably a fair result, on chances created, but we had several great moments throughout the contest. The next two games will be very exciting.”
