Junior Schools Cup Finals

Following last week’s thrilling Senior Finals, attention now turns to the Junior Schools Cup Finals this Friday, 24 March. There will be six finals between 10.30am-6pm at Peffermill in Edinburgh. You can find the programme and schedule here.

Route to the Finals

The Junior Schools Cups are for the S3/U15 age groups. Teams have reached the Cup Finals after a series of knockout matches since last September, with Plate competitions for those who lost their first matches.

Boys Cup and Plate

The Boys Cup Final is a West v East encounter, with Jordanhill School up against holders’ Fettes College. After a bye in the first round, Jordanhill beat Edinburgh Academy 2-1 before an impressive 4-0 semi-final win against Hutchesons’. Fettes also had a bye before knocking out George Heriot’s and then a 3-1 semi-final win v George Watson’s College.

The Plate final pitches Strathallan against Stewart’s Melville College, who were both knocked out of the cup by George Watson’s in rounds 1 & 2 respectively. Strathallan then eliminated Robert Gordon’s and Loretto on penalties. And Stewart’s Melville had two big wins against Edinburgh Academy and Merchiston.

Girls Cup and Plate

The Girls Cup final between Hutchesons’ Grammar School and George Watson’s College also promises to be a cracking game. They’ve both had three tough matches to reach the final.

Hutchesons’ beat The High School of Glasgow and Glasgow Academy before a hard-fought 2-1 semi-final victory against Dollar Academy. Watson’s put out St George’s before a nail-biting win on penalties against Mary Erskine’s, and then a 3-0 semi-final success v Fettes College.

The Plate final sees a rematch of the Senior Cup final between Mary Erskine School (MES) and Edinburgh Academy. MES beat The High School of Glasgow and Loretto in their Plate matches. Their opponents knocked out Glasgow Academy and St George’s.

Girls Challenge Cup and Plate

We’ve had loads of great matches in the Challenge Cup, with St Columba’s and Kelvinside Academy scoring 21 goals between them to reach the final. The girls from Kilmacolm haven’t conceded a goal in knocking out Kelso HS, Wellington School and Earlston HS. Their Glaswegian opponents saw off two Borders’ schools, Selkirk HS and Peebles HS, before a thrilling 3-2 semi-final win against Jordanhill.

Peebles bounced back to win their Plate matches against Kilgraston and Galashiels to reach the final. Their opponents, Morrison’s Academy eliminated two Ayrshire teams, Marr College and Wellington School, before an impressive 2-0 semi-final win against Selkirk HS.

How to watch

Spectators are very welcome to attend these finals – admission is free. Anyone coming to the event is encouraged to use public transport as this is always a very busy day. Please give consideration to residents if parking in nearby streets.
