Inverleith march on

PRESIDENTS CUP

Inverleith took their first leap towards reaching the
final of the Presidents Cup with a 3-1 win over Western Wildcats in
a pool A match, and now must do the same to Grove Menzieshill
tomorrow to seal that final place.

In many respects the Wildcats shot themselves in the foot by
missing several chances when the scores were still level, including
a spot effort from the normally reliable Scott McCartney in only
four minutes.   The Edinburgh side took full advantage
and reached the interval a goal in front, courtesy of Phil Hall
following a pass from Andy Malcolm.

McCartney made amends early in the second half with a low shot
from a pass by Steven Percy for the equaliser.  
Inverleith restored their lead through an individual goal from
Lewis Gibson, he took the ball into the circle and scored with a
reverse stick shot.   The result was sealed when a cross
by Malcolm found Gibson at the far post and he was left with a
simple tap in for his second goal and 3-1.   The Wildcats
again spurned a spot opportunity, this time Percy hit a post with
his effort.
