Important lesson for Scotland U21 men in Loughborough

It was a tough day for Scotland U21 men in Loughborough as they fell 9-2 to England on the second of three contests.

Scotland started the game superbly well as they got off to a goal scoring start. Struan Walker found the net from a penalty corner to put the Scots in front early doors, 1-0.

England retaliated with all guns blazing and the Scots really struggled to defend their circle. By the end of the first quarter the home side had surged into a 2-1 lead.

The second quarter was a goal fest. The very impressive England side were clinical and punished Scotland by striking four more goals, although Struan Walker managed to bag his and Scotland’s second of the contest. The ball was won well in midfield and fed to Kier Robb, who picked out Walker to fire home.

6-2 at half time was tough to take and in the end the home side bagged three more, to win 9-2, taking advantage of some slackness and inexperience of hockey at this level. The contest was a tremendous learning experience for a talented Scots side with big ambitions. The bounce back will be the test for a team with a huge year ahead as the teams move into the final day of the series.
