Grove Menzieshill stage successful youth festival

 

Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club held a youth festival at Dundee International Sports Complex on Sunday 7 June 2015
The club are very thankful to Sport Dundee Commonwealth Games Legacy Funding, which enabled the event to be held.
Over 150 youths from Dundee, Perth, Kinross, Angus and Fife aged 5 to 17 played in the Dundee sunshine.
The festival had tournament matches played at U10, U12, U14 and U18 aged groups.
Each group was supported by large numbers of supporters who experienced a very relaxing day of hockey in Dundee
Gavin Byers, Tournament Coordinator praised all the youths for their efforts and sporting behaviour especially all the youth coaches who umpired the matches
Scott Madden Scottish Hockey Regional Development Manager commented that it was great to see so many young people playing the sport and the future of our sport is going in the right direction considering the performances of the players, some of who were only 5 years old.
Grove Menzieshill were also recently recognised at the Dundee Active School Awards with the club picking up School to Club Link of the Year Award for their development work within Grove Academy and the cluster area. Shaan Azfal, a club volunteer was also recognised as Dundee College Volunteer of the Year and 3 of the clubs young volunteers also presented to 200+ guests on their experiences volunteering in schools.
