Granite City Wanderers first for Enhanced clubCAP Accreditation

Granite City Wanderers Hockey Club has become the
first Grampian city sports club to receive The Enhanced clubCAP
accreditation. The clubCAP scheme is nationally recognised by
sportscotland. The city council’s Active Communities team
co-ordinates the scheme in Aberdeen. The quality assurance scheme
provides a development tool for sports clubs, enabling them to
demonstrate good practice in the running of the club. Being awarded
clubCAP accreditation lets the sporting community, prospective new
members and parents know that the club operates in a safe and
wellorganised manner.
The quality assurance scheme provides a development
tool for sports clubs, enabling them to demonstrate good practice

know that the club operates in a safe and well organised
manner.
The scheme recognises and rewards good practice in
sports clubs by looking at four main areas within clubs: club
management; equity and ethics; quality coaching programmes; and
safety and child protection.
The scheme involves two levels of accreditation –
standard and enhanced. Granite City Wanderers achieved their
standard accreditation last year but have been recognised as one of
Aberdeen’s forward thinking and well run sports clubs and therefore
have become the first Sports Club to receive the enhanced
award.
Club President Mark Pain was delighted at achieving
the enhanced award.
“As a club Granite City try to provide a safe and
nurturing environment for all its players it is a great honour to
be recognised for our efforts, it has taken a lot of dedicated work
from a lot of our members to achieve this. We are under no
allusions that the award is for a two year period and we will be
doing our best to continue our efforts to be the first club to be
renewed in 2013.”
Granite City Wanderers Hockey Club are about to
celebrate their tenth anniversary as a club in Aberdeen and their
rise through the ranks of Scottish Hockey has been sustained
throughout the ten year period. They have now a membership of 160 +
members and have bucked the trend of shrinking hockey clubs.
