Team GB women marched to the top of their pool on goal
difference from favourites with a thrilling 5-3 win over South
Korea at the Riverside Arena yesterday.  

With Helen Richardson standing in as captain for the injured
Kate Walsh, GB went ahead in only 6 minutes when a run and shot by
Nicola White eluded the Korean goalkeeper.   Although the
Koreans equalised through Darae Kim, the lead was soon restored
with a trademark drag flick by Crista Cullen.

The three points looked to have been sealed three minutes into
the second half when Sarah Thomas won a penalty corner and Cullen`s
resulting shot was brilliantly deflected into the goal by a diving
Alex Danson.   But the Koreans suddenly came back into
the game and brought the score back to 3-3 with strikes by Hye
Lyoung Han and Mi Hyun Park.

But two goals in as many minutes restored GB`s lead, a set piece
routine broke down, the ball finally fell to Georgie Twigg and she
scored with a fierce reverse stick shot.  Seconds later an
error by the Korean keeper left Chloe Rogers with a totally open
goal and she gratefully made it 5-3.

The event was soured with an ankle injury to striker Alex Danson
in the closing minutes and she had to be stretchered off the
pitch.

Netherlands beat Japan 3-2 to keep their perfect record, but
China were held to a goalless draw by Belgium.
