Gavin Byers to lead Scotland Aspiring boys into this summer’s European Championships
Scottish Hockey has announced Gavin Byers as Scotland Aspiring Boys’ Head Coach and will lead the team into this summer’s European Championships.
With over 150 combined outdoor and indoor caps for Scotland, Byers brings vast international experience to the Aspiring Boys’ programme. Byers recently returned to Scotland from playing and coaching in Germany and is the coach of the Grove Menzieshill men’s first team, as well as coaching at the High School of Dundee.
It’s a huge year for the Aspiring Boys’ as they build towards competing at the U18 Boys’ EuroHockey Championships in Krefeld, Germany, this summer. The tournament will be played on 8-16 July and features Austria; Belgium; England; Spain; Germany; Ireland; the Netherlands; and Poland alongside the Scots.
Byers said, “I am honoured to be given the chance to lead the Scotland boys to the European Championships in Germany in July. The next eight months are going to be an intense period for the boys and I am excited to see how the team develops over that period.
“When we step out on to the pitch for the first game at the European Championships, I am confident we will be well prepared, focussed and excited to show everyone what we are all about.”
