Dundee Hockey Week inspires hundreds of youngsters to pick up sticks

Last week saw over 230 young people take part in Hockey across Dundee.

Programmes delivered by Dundee Wanderers, Grove Menzieshill and Leisure & Culture Dundee allowed children ranging from aged 5 up to 16 to improve their hockey skills and most importantly provided them with an opportunity to take part in the sport regularly.

Grove Menzieshill delivered a week long summer camp at Dawson Park which was attended by 65 children and was supported by the clubs dedicated coaching staff which includes their team of young leaders who give up countless hours to assist with the development of the club.

Grove Menzieshill’s Harry Byers said: “We got five dry days — the longest stretch of the summer so far! Looks like we picked the right week!

“It’s been great fun and we’ve had 65 kids, boys and girls, from five to 16 taking part.”

Dundee Wanderers also delivered a week long summer camp at Dundee International Sports Complex which was attended by 28 children and was supported by the club’s Junior Coordinator along with their young volunteers and junior coaches.

Leisure & Culture Dundee used the Scottish Hockey inflatable pitch as an attraction during their summer fun day on Friday 7 August with over 140 young players testing out their skills across the day. Each player received information about hockey provision in Dundee and was sign posted to their local hockey club.
